The Capricorn convergence continues as the Sun and Venus meet up in the sign built to last on January 11. Venus is still retrograde until the end of the month, so we’re deep in the trenches of reworking our entire value system around love and relationships.
Capricorn brings the necessary reality check to test the durability of our intimate connections. As Ram Das says:
“After the honeymoon is over -- after the desire systems that were dormant in the relationship and the attraction in it pass and all of it passes -- then you are left with the work to do. And it’s the same work. When you trade in one partner for another, you still have the same work. You’re going to have to do it sooner or later when the pizzazz is over. And it just keeps going over. And you can’t milk the romanticism of relationship too long as you become more conscious. It’s more interesting than that. It really is.”
If ever there was a transit to bring this kind of practical teaching home, it’s the Sun meeting up with Venus retrograde in Capricorn. Serious Saturn is the planet behind this configuration, and Saturn is constantly testing our maturity levels. In other words, we’re being summoned to grow up when it comes to our concepts about romance and love. How can we take a more responsible approach to our partnerships?
Venus retrograde in Capricorn is about as practical and no-nonsense as it gets when it comes to love. Capricorn always asks if this is worth our time? Is this relationship, is this hard work worth our time? Do we value it enough to put in the hardcore effort required to make it work?
Capricorn is certainly not a sign of immediate gratification, so we’re more willing to cultivate patience and consider the long-term benefits of our current commitments. We’re also considering the value of sticking through the thick and thin with our beloved.
Linda McCartney was once asked how she and Paul stayed together through so many trials and tribulations. Her response was "You don’t get divorced." In a nutshell, this is an excellent encapsulation of the current planetary teachings. If you want your relationships to last, don’t give up!
